A SEPTEMBER LOOKOUT

A Classy way to look out! One of the windows of the Chinese Garden
of the Huntington Library.
Last Tuesday I saw what looked like a mist between the trees (I live in the forest). When I stepped out on the deck, I knew it wasn’t mist because I smelled the smoke of a fire! Automatically I thought about emergency supplies. Then hubby heard it had started the day before, half an hour away and was only 25 % under control. At noon it was 50% contained. Good news! At the end of the day 8 acres were fully contained.  Thankful!

This week am skipping ALL SEASONS, because too many things are going on. This is my weekly post for all the memes/challenges I prepared weeks ago. So ALL SEASONS LOVERS,
see you all back COMING SUNDAY!

Look out for this one too! Isn’t she pretty?

Fri Hunt: Begin with J – Not Jesh’s car:)

A big rig on the other side of the Grapevine (North of Los Angeles) – a treacherous freeway climb and descent.  Since we are climbing slowly, and on the other side stepping on the brake descending, I could take this drive by.
In summer overheated cars are a common sight. In winter sudden snow falls can stall cars for miles., and overnight – jikes.

Look closer. One of the things I had to get used to on the country side, was that people leave messages!

Makro Tex asked for early signs of Fall. In North California they do not appear till late October. Our climate is much like the Mediterranean area. This is photo of last year. Berries are for me a subtle and nice sign of Fall.

Door of helicopter, with a possibly juicy and interesting story (some years ago), at the coast of San Diego.
When I had my Tamron zoom lens, I saw this whole event take place. it was easy to see that something was happening when a helicopter landed on this big yacht, and three men, one obviously with some handicapped or sick, came out. But innocent me was just interested in the helicopter.

Back then I didn’t know about Thurs. Doors, otherwise I also would have taken pics of it opening and closing (Random.: the Fun,  ABC Wed – Interesting,  Thurs Door)

My favourite is the red tower against the blue and green. So beautiful in its simplicity.

  2. jesh stg says:

Thank you Joanne! Unusual in Holland to see a structure in the landscape to be painted bright red:) Enjoy your weekend!

  3. That rosse is a true beauty

  4. I’m sorry jesh — the comment above was from me — i forgot to change to my current address. And i hit send before I was read to do so — I also loved the lighthouse and the green fields ….

  5. Debbie Smyth says:

A great lookout shot – thanks Jesh. And your helicopter fits the topic too!
But it’s the red lighthouse that does it for me – another lookout and a peaceful shot – great colours and lots of calming open space. Have a great Sunday

Is this also the All Seasons post and I’m too early? Or is All Seasons still to appear?

  6. jesh stg says:

Deb am skipping All Seasons this week, because I have too much going on this weekend:) See you in a week!

  7. Debbie Smyth says:

I know the feeling! I hope you manage a spot of relaxation!

  8. Charming little window. Fun sign about the Squirrels, Pretty Anemone. Have great wee.

  9. Well I meant to say have a great “week” not wee – but I guess you can have one of those too!

  10. Lots of subjects, and lots of beautiful photos!

  11. That’s a cracking shot you’ve taken of the red tower. It could be the cover of a book. 🙂

  12. Kelleyn says:

That sign one nut from another is pretty cute!

  13. I thought you were taking a vacation from blogging this week. I like the heliocopter shots a lot. Fun to use your camera as a binocular!

  14. Delightful images, Jesh! The pond with the still waters if my fave image.
    Thanks for hosting.

  15. PS: I can’t seem to find the link-up…

I can’t say I’ve ever seen a helicopter land on a yacht before, that’s pretty impressive. I’m so glad to hear you’re safe and it’s a great idea to keep listening to any fire watch news or weather stations. How frightening, that’s so close I can’t imagine. We’ve had smoke warnings here from Canadian fires and I would be clueless if the news hadn’t mentioned it, supposedly it can affect us even from up there. Stay alert my friend.

  17. I’m glad the forest fire was contained. I have a daughter in Burbank and there are fires near there. Guess it really isn’t nice to fool mother nature, because she is fighting back!

  18. Molly says:

The shot of the red tower in the green grass and against the blue sky is fabulous

Love the nut sign! We have lots of smoke covering our area due to the fires in B.C. and Washington state. And it’s so hot and humid, it’s hard to be comfortable at all. Oh and by the way, I think you must have missed a week – H was last week so we’re on I this week. Next week it’s J…just fyi – we all get busy and lose track. I’m lucky to be able to post at all these days! *smile*

  21. …lots of nice things this week, I like the sign about squirrels and nuts. Thanks for linking!

  22. Ruth says:

I have heard about the fires. Even some people were affected in the San Fernando Valley (some friends). Glad to hear you are doing well and the fires are contained. Glad the heat wave is gone too. We were roasting in here. I do not remember seeing the aperture on your first photo on the Huntington Library. Will need to go again.

What an interesting window shape! Lovely photos – wishing you bright September days to photograph. Have a great day!

  24. Wonderful photo’s again Jesh! Love it.

Your choice for I is a very good one… if one uses his eyes in the right way, there is always something interesting to discover…

I thought I commented, but I don’t see my comment here? Anyway, looks like you had a wonderful week. That flower is gorgeous! Such a bright pretty pink. Have a great weekend!

Lots of fires in the western US and Canada this year. And last year, and the year before…

  27. jesh stg says:

Oh nice, you also have a wordpress blog! When hubby showed me the map where that fire close to us was, I saw to my amazement that in Northern California there were 4-5 other fires burning – all around us – all but one were lightning fires. From people from San Francisco (3 1/2 West) we heard that the smoke even reached them.
Also I read on the news that in (Montana? one of the Northern states) a large fire were burning and people were losing their homes.
Am not a panicky person, but I wonder why there everywhere fires….
Thank you – my nose tells me when there’s smoke:)

  28. Jesh, you’ve reminded me how beautiful Huntington Gardens is and that I haven’t been there in ages! It’s time for a jaunt up north!

  29. jesh stg says:

Love the Huntington – at least half of my photos come from there (since we went regularly when living in Southern Cal.).
You know when to go – when there’s no traffic:):) See you back on Sunday for All Seasons

  30. I love that sign, Jesh. We were a bit concerned about fires near Pasadena as well, as one of our daughters lives there. Scary stuff and lots of weather-related disasters right now. Sad.

  31. Dan Antion says:

I’m with Joanne, I love the tower. The first picture reminds me of a portal, which is kinda-sorta a door, which at this point on this day is good enough for me 🙂

  32. jesh stg says:

Dan, hope you know the Thurs. door is the one of the helicopter:)
There more doors on the yacht, but am too much of a minimalist to post several angles of the same.

  33. Dan Antion says:

I missed that. I’m sorry. I still kinda like the first one 😏

  34. prior.. says:

I had to scour to find the door of the helicopter = hah! I got it once I read about it – and so much to soak up – glad the fire was contained and the opening garden opening was artsy and so nice.

  35. Glad to read that the fire was contained. Whew! So many wildfires are burning right now. Glad you guys are safe. Thanks for linking up today and have a great weekend.

  36. Mascha says:

Lovely collection of beautiful and interesting things.
By the way: I often see am emergency helicopter over my home, it landes by the hospital nearby. My cat hate this noise!
Enjoy your time, thanks for joining

  37. I love the natural bright colors in your bottom photo. I wondered where you were in California then I saw the scene is in Holland. Hope you fared well through those crazy high temps last week. We were actually hotter than the Central Valley. Wowza!

  38. Peter B says:

So glad the fire was quickly contained. Nothing worse than stepping out of your house and smelling smoke and learning about a nearby fire. Have a nice weekend!

  39. jesh stg says:

Oh, I like the first one too, but it had not occurred to me that could be seen as a “door” :): By the way, thanks for hosting this week – I know from All Seasons it’s a lot of work!

  40. Dan Antion says:

Thanks. It was an easy decision though. Norm does a great job 🙂

  41. Betty says:

I’d love to live in the woods, but I’m sure the smell of smoke was frightening. I liked the squirrel sign too.

  42. pattisj says:

Beautiful photos. That road doesn’t seem all that friendly! I like the squirrel sign, how fun! Quite a shot with the helicopter atop the vessel.

  43. jesh stg says:

Happy you like all the details Patti! You’ve seen it accurate – this area is not for friendly, but more for rugged-ness:) Have a great weekend and
hope to see you back for All Seasons before Wednesday:)

  44. Onteesting photos as always.

  45. James says:

Nice shots! The red tower is my favorite one.

  46. Teresa says:

Great series of images. Love the window! Very pretty. Glad to hear the fire was contained. Thanks so much for joining Friday’s Hunt. Hope you have a great rest of the week!

  47. scotiaspinner says:

I’m really late visiting this week. The squirrel sign made me laugh. Glad that the fire didn’t last very long. They are so destructive. I love the picture with the water and the reeds. The Chinese garden window is my favourite one!
