THE WAY BACK HOME

My way back home aka my way back to reality, now we went to town and spent $$ for our first batch of Christmas presents. We made it a rule not to go in debt for these presents!

Three cows in a meadow  – what could be more uncomplicated than that?
and then, a meadow so green in the Fall?  For the first time in I don’t even know how long, but because of the rain it has started looking like Spring again in California:)

  1. Great plan not going into debt for Christmas. Knock on wood I haven’t done that ever.

I loved that sky with those great clouds! The rain has been wonderful. I just wish the weeds didn’t love it so well. I can’t keep up with them!

  2. Mitzi says:

Definitely an awesome plan to not go into debt for Christmas! Love the images you have shared. I’m with you about the green….it is nearly December after all…

  3. Oh boy, I love that ’56 Chevy, thanks for sharing. How about a ’57 next time!

  4. Melody62 says:

Did you post anything on one of your blogs about Thanksgiving? Hope you had a good one!
Am mesmerized about the green, and at the same time confused – it doesn’t look like the California I know!

  6. jesh stg says:

Thank you Deborah! Hope you had a good Thanksgiving? I hardly was on the computer after Thursday, until today. Now we’re both retired, it’s good that our grands live close, so they receive little presents throughout the year. We couldn’t spend in one month what we used to.
Since we live in the forest, no one looks at weeds – am fortunate:);)

  7. jesh stg says:

Am glad you know the year of the model, I was off about 20 years! (laughing), but I used to live in a neighborhood where a few were always working on their antique car (they were definitely older than the one I pasted) – kind of gave a nice atmosphere…

  8. jesh stg says:

    I “have to” succeed:):)

  9. narami says:

Lovely trip Joanne 🙂 Thanks for sharing this!

  10. Isn’t it wonderful when the Grandchildren are close. We can spoil them all year! We do the ame but, we’ve been cutting back on the BIG Christmas getting ready for retirement, and our children and family get it so it’s all good.

+1 for living in the forest! It’s the snow, well, and septic that scare the h e double hockey sticks out of us, so we’re looking at retirement in a much smaller city than where we are now, and houses that have city water and sewer. I don’t know how to live on a well and septic system! I salute you!

  11. Great old car and a lovely carriage!

  12. jesh stg says:

Since we grew up in Holland – where Christmas was all connected to the church, we never did a big Christmas a home here in the USA. We don’t need to deal with a well – we’re connected to the water system (thankful for that – a well can be tricky, our daughter and hubby found out), but do have a septic tank. Actually you don’t have to do anything, you have companies who empty it every 10 (?) years. Only, you can’t build something on where the leech lines are.For Jacob there are no impossibilities (really:) ) so as long as he deals with it, I’m fine:)

  13. You’re a very blessed and lucky woman to have Jacob! 🙂

When I was girl Christmas was tied to church as well. I don’t go to church very often now, but my soul and foundation are entrenched and I’ve tried to instill that in my children. I did return to church when they were growing up so they’d have that foundation.
I hope my daughter does the same for #1 Grandson soon! I’m telling him Bible stories to help it along in the meantime.

Lots of great shots here this week! Don’t you just love the unusual shapes of those old automobiles! I go to the antique auto show every summer in my village and love it!

  15. It looks gorgeous up in your neck of the woods, Jesh. We’re turning green, too. I managed to throw mustard seeds into the backyard before last week’s rain. Looking forward to eating mustard. Is the old-time carriage in Auburn? It has probably been 15 years since we wandered around Auburn. A fun place.

  16. jesh stg says:

Hmmm, you’re giving me an idea – do you have recipes with mustard greens in it? Ah, you caught me, the carriage is in Old Town Sacramento. Yes, Auburn is unexpectedly touristy. The red white shop Hook and Ladder I posted (I think last week) was also in Auburn. Thanks for the visit!

  17. Joy says:

Nice to have plants bloom twice and I love that old car.
You asked about Cumbria, it is the home of the English Lake District so known for its lakes, hills and possibly, rain:) My photos show a small corner of the south west sometimes known as lakeless Lakeland. Now the wood, not many willows here although any tree can be pollarded but I really should have called the wood in my photo coppiced. Pollarding lops wood off higher up so Vincent could see those nice shapes but coppicing takes it from lower down, good for forest wild flowers and wildlife but not so often done nowadays.

  18. I like the door (and rest) of the antique store. We also do not go into debt for Christmas or any other time if at all possible, our house being the one exception and we paid that off as quickly as possible. I have some presents already and will be getting the rest soon. Time to put up the decorations as well, but we were out of town over Thanksgiving, so I haven’t gotten that far yet. 🙂

  19. Norm 2.0 says:

I like the door and the idea of not overdoing it on presents for the holidays 🙂

  20. Lisa Isaacs says:

    That doorway looks so pretty!

  21. Great mix of photos.

  22. Roger Green says:

    Now THAT’S a car!

    ROG, ABCW

  23. jesh stg says:

Just bought the house we live in now, two years ago, so we’re on the bottom of the barrel, also because we’re both retired now. so no paying it off quickly for us. But am thankful though for the vacation view we have, and the studio, and two of my kids between 1-2 hrs. away, instead of 7 hrs.:):) We haven’t even bought the tree yet!

  24. jesh stg says:

Don’t know what is “average” on spending $$ on presents up North where you live, but I was quite shocked overhearing a conversation of a twenty-something, still single, chatting with the cashier, that she spent 2K on presents last year for nieces and nephews…. it was hard for me to keep my mouth shut, lol.

  25. Peter B says:

Beautiful shot of the lipstick plant. Great sky shot too!

  26. Some amazing orange car!

  27. In answer to your question, I also have photographs on my blog, but everything appears in chronological order, so the current posts are postcards. I have labels so you can view posts that way (if that’s a help for what you’re looking for).

  28. Tamar says:

That car is a classic!! Hope you’re well!

  29. Eileen Wise says:

Hello, since retiring I had to cut back on Christmas presents too. I love these images, the cows and the horse and carriage are wonderful. The classic car is cool. The sky shot is lovely. Great collection of photos. Thank you so much for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

  30. Margaret says:

I love your lipstick plant and I would love a ride in that old buggy. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  31. While all photos looked great, I really like the sign in the antique store’s door photo. They elevated junk to a classy, Junque! Who would feel guilty spending money there?

  32. Ruth Daly says:

Lovely series of photos. I really the clouds over the fields, and that gorgeous blue sky. #photofriday

  33. Always an interesting and colorful post… 🙂

  34. scotiaspinner says:

I like your lipstick plant – I have never had one of those. Great outdoor shots – your world is so different from my world of white at the moment – snow everywhere!

  35. Teresa says:

What a beautiful assortment of images. Love that old orange car. Of course the horse and carriage is quite romantic and lovely. The flower blooming is certainly a nice surprise! Thanks so much for joining Friday’s Hunt. Hope you have a great week!

  36. What an unusual colour that lipstick plant flower has, Jesh. We have one but it is deep red.
Thank you for linking up with the Floral Friday Fotos meme.

  37. The rolling green hills of the last photo look magnificent, Jesh!
Thanks for joining the Friday Greens meme.
