Thank you all for your beautiful posts last week and your heartfelt New Year’s wishes! Not that January is an indicator how this year will turn out, but just the same wishing you an awesome 2017!
Nature made sure we would not get bored with the after-holiday blues. Tuesday night (Dec. 27) we were surprised with a 5.7 earthquake Richterscale (epicenter in the state of Nevada). Not a newbie to earthquakes. Several, and two big ones experienced in Southern California.
Since I was under the impression earthquakes almost never happen in the mountains, was a bit puzzled when our barely 20 year old house started shaking and loudly rattling. Five min. later, a looong aftershock, and an hour later almost as strong of an after shock but not as long. Too alert to sleep that night.

On New Year’s Day 8 pm, snow had fallen! Next day, still snowing:)
It was the perfect background and excuse to stay close to the wood stove. I see something beautiful in the fire … what do you see?
Reading a book, while having a hot coffee with apple doughnut (made by hubby) is perfect for now.
The last is a New Year’s tradition in Holland, my country of origin. (As little kids we would go to our neighbors with some apple doughnuts and get a little (often monetary) treat in return).

Apple doughnuts! Did you make them? Or are you lucky and have a bakery that carries them? They sound delicious.
I’d be heading for the fire, too! Great shots for a winter’s day.
Actually hubby’s efforts have been turning out much tastier, so he has made the apple doughnuts for years:)(they’re not really doughnuts but fritters, but the first day they’re as soft as a doughnut)
So am glad I don’t have to lug heavy pans with hot oil!
Am teasing, but the epicenter of the earthquake came from Nevada (Bridgeport) -where you might have been looking?
About an hour from the quake epicenter I think.
Yes, it’s about the “lava” shooting up – can you make out a certain shape?

For a moment I thought the photo of the fire in the fireplace was a photo of lava erupting from a volcano. An apple doughnut and hot chocolate sounds good right now. 🙂

Oh no, heavens! The earthquake was scary enough!
If you ever travel to Holland at New Year’s eve, ask for appelflappen (apple doughnuts) or oliebollen ( little fritter balls with raisins in it).
Now I wished I lived in Southern Cal. where it was sarmer, although I heard that it rained a lot over the holidays:)

Must be cosy by the fire with so much snow outside. And extra nice with tea and a treat 🙂

I have never been in an earthquake… they seem to be hitting in uncommon places lately.
Your snow shot is dreamy. I love big fluffy flakes like that. And apple doughnuts, yummy. Looks like you are having a lovely start to your New Year.

We experienced a 5.8 earthquake in 2011–rare on the east coast. It was centered 150 miles from us, but felt throughout the state. Love the photo of the road and snow-laden trees. Not sure what shape I see in the fire, but it has a sword! A book, a donut, and hot beverage appeal to me right now.
Earthquake one day…snow the next! Crazy insane weather! Of course, you know, it was no different here. in the 70’s one day & then in the 20’s the next. Insane. Lovely images. Glad I was able to make it here this week & thanks for your comment on my post.

When we lived in the mountains of New Mexico we bought earthquake insurance, which was fairly low priced because of the lower risk. I got it because I thought about how those mountains had been formed by huge movements of the ground and figured that maybe they were not quite finished being built!
